Forest FestivalThe 10th Forest Festival will take place on 30th August 2008 at the Lawn in Swindon. SN2 5DU. Meet at 10am, step out 10.15 to 10.50am. Or Lower Shaw Farm, Old Shaw Lane. SN5 5PJ. Meet at 4pm, step out 4.15pm to 5pm. Tuesdays: Broad Green Community Centre Centre, Broad Street, Swindon. SN1 2AN. Meet at 10am, step out 10.15 to 10.50am. Thursdays: Eldene Community Centre, Eldene Drive. SN3 3RZ. Meet at 2.30pm. Or Middleaze, Saltway Centre, Pearl Road. Meet at 2.15pm, step out 2.30 to 3.10pm. All walks are followed by tea or coffee. Just turn up, come alone or with friends. Health Walks Volunteer LeadersActive Swindon is currently recruiting volunteers to become walk leaders. Some may wish to lead planned walks and others may like to set up walk groups where they live. The next session is on 22nd May 2008 from 9.45am to 3.00pm at Premier House, Station Road. Other days will be arranged to suit volunteers. Woodland for Activity NetworkThe next Network meeting will take place at Chiseldon School, SN4 0NS on Tuesday, 13th May 2008, 3.30pm to 5.45pm. The theme will be: Forest School leaders and 'would-be' leaders - share inspired outdoor learning. Join us to share your best Forest School activities, any successful procedures as well as challenges. Dress to work outside. Booking would be preferred but everybody is welcome. Forest SchoolThe next Forest School Leader course (BTEC level 3) for schools in the GWCF is being run in Swindon by Bridgwater College from 12th to 16th May 2008. Cost: £300 pp for schools within the Great Western Community Forest, £700 pp external. The course is sponsored by Active Swindon and the Great Western Community Forest. Woodland GamesThe annual ‘Woodland Games’ will include competitions, organised activities and taster sessions based on ‘non-traditional’ sports and physical activities. The full list of activities will develop as the project progresses but could, for example include: cani-cross (running with dogs), stealth walking, disc golf, quoits, rounders, ‘survival’ games, walking relays. Other more traditional activities such as hash running, orienteering, yoga, and Tai Chi will be available too. This year, the first Woodland Games event will co-incide with our very popular Forest Festival and will take place on 30th August 2008, at the Lawn in Swindon.
